Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to be a star in the mainstream failed. Perry had been signed to two distinct record labels, but she resigned prior to releasing any material. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which garnered modest attention in 2007 because of its humorous title. I kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity that is set to a gritty electronic-pop beat, was a big sensation a couple of months later. It was a controversial song in that critics had criticized it for encouraging same-sex relationships as well as others who claimed it depicted a sexually explicit scene that appealed to male fantasies about sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl was a smash hit for Perry's album One of the Boys in 2008 due to the mix of sexual enthusiasm and polished melody. Hot N Cold was a success in the United States, and the album's second single Hot N Cold with its fast and bouncy beat was a hit.
